Tinkering Around

The fourth post this week?! I must be breaking some kind of record for myself. This absolutely NEVER happens. =)

I’m wrapping up the rest of the shower preparations; got the teacups and dishware packed, got game materials packed, got my gift all wrapped and ready to go, all I have left is to make some of the food (including those lemon bars) and pack that too. And then off we go!

One more thing I decided to make – teacup charms. I have a handful of beads and wire rings just laying around, might as well put them to good use.

    Ready to make charms!

    Teacup Charms!

On a completely different note, have you all seen the new Summer edition of Interweave Knits? They were actually selling issues at Walmart for 10% off the cover price, and I picked one up. There were a couple projects that caught my eye (click for a close-up):

Wheat Ear Cable Yoke Sweater Little Smocked Cardigan Garter Stitch Pup

These I hummed and hawed at. The cover sweater (Wheat Ear Cable Yoke, far left picture) was intriguing because I liked the shape of the sweater, the boatneck, and the pretty cables, but I wasn’t sure whether the design would flatter my body, with the cables stopping midway like that. The white little cardigan (middle picture) caught my eye too – I have a weakness for cardigans – but the way it stops midway also made me hesitate. I think I would probably change the pattern to make it go all the way down to my hips, with a bit of waist shaping. And the little puppy sweater, that was just because it was super cute. I don’t have a puppy at all.

But the one thing that totally caught my breath was this:

    Oriel Lace Blouse

Isn’t this the most gorgeous thing ever?? It makes me miss lace so much! I love the elegance of this, the sleeves, the lace, everything. Well, okay, not everything – I can do without the high neckline (my neck is not long enough to look good with this). If this was a V-neck or boatneck, it would be so much more flattering. Doing a V-neck might be kinda tricky with the lace pattern, but a boatneck, totally do-able. The required yarn, on the otherhand, is quite obviously out of my budget (needing 6 skeins at nearly $27 per skein – OUCH).

i LOVE THIS TOOOOO!! i’m not thin enough to wear it..but it’s SO BEAUTIFUL!! i’m sure there is other yarn you can make this out of. :) shooot i want to make one so bad. :)

i love the tea cup charms! they are so cute! since i started doing all those stitch markers..my mind is more open to beading. tee-hee…stupid crafts. why do they have to be so enticing??

Love the teacup charms – very cute. The shower looks like it will be fun! (and you know how I feel about baby showers!) :)

Also – those are my same favorite patterns from IK. The lace is gorgeous, and I could totally see you wearing that sweater. Maybe you could find a yarn sub? Given the drape, it would probably have to be a silk yarn though, and all silk is pretty pricey.

teacup charms! what a cool idea. :) that wheat ear cable yoke is quite eye-catching!

After previewed the IK via online (the copy hasn’t reached my door yet), I don’t like much of the patterns, but love the lace top. I think I will use other yarn to knit it instead of the silk (for it is expensive).

I love that lace blouse, too. What kind of yarn does it require? I have some laceweight alpaca yarn you should see before you give up on the possibility of making this.

The teacup charms are pretty. Trust you to come up with something wonderful!!

The lace top is fab, would be awesome if you got to knit it!

I like the new IK. I got mine in the mail a while ago and didn’t have time to read it until Friday. I’m partial to the Blouson, the Josephine top, and the Origami cardi. I like the cover design too, but wonder about where those cables end myself.

Yeah, I like that lace top too but definately not the high neck part as well. I am looking forward to the next issue of IK cos that will be the first issue with Eunny as the editor.

By the way, I just tagged you for the 7 Random Things.

I love this issue of IK too, especially the lace top and the origami cardi. I’m also wondering about the yarn for the lace top.

    Love the teacup charms too.

Ps – someone beat me to tagging you for the 7 random things.

    The teacup charms are gorgeous.

Yeah that top is gorgeous! But I’m not a fan of the neckline either.

    Cute teacup charms!
