Stitches West 08

Beware, this is a somewhat picture-heavy post. =)

I’d say, half the fun was the Stitch ‘n Ride train ride itself. I didn’t get a snapshot of the goody bag that each of us got, but let’s say we were all very impressed by it. =) We were even interviewed by a local paper and got our SnB group pictures taken and everything. So that was fun!

    Me, Caitlyn, Jen @ Stitches

This is how crowded the Market was. Sometimes it was hard to get around because of the sheer volume of people in each of the little booths.

Just a few of the MANY walls of yarn displayed:

    Disco Lights

Books (the line at the Webs booth was huge):

Alot of groups all over the country and Canada were there, as well as some well-known knitting personalities! I have to say, I’m a bit shy, so I didn’t really approach people… I always feel stupid about that since they must get alot of attention already as it is. I went by the Ravelry booth, and Jess and Casey were very very nice and down-to-earth.

Me @ Ravelry booth (avatar wall)

Can you believe that wall is made up of THOUSANDS of Ravelry member avatars? People would stand in front of it, staring at it, looking for their own avatar (I didn’t even try).

There was also a knitting fashion show (runway and all), tons of spinning wheels, exotic yarns, exotic needles/tools, and everything in between. I thought one of the coolest parts of all was seeing everyone attending, who was wearing a knitted item. Almost everyone was wearing or displaying a knitted piece, and in a crowd, you can easily pick out a handful of knitted items of patterns that you’ve seen online, in a magazine, or wherever. And that was pretty awesome. Everyone’s stuff looked great!!

We got back on the train go back home – and share in all the bounty we had purchased. I held myself pretty well and didn’t spend more than $200. Others, well, I can’t speak for everyone else, but some went all out, and I’m sure some stashes were increased twice over if not more. I’ll leave you with a final picture – one of my favorites of the day.

Oh my gosh, there’s an actual wall of Ravelry members???! and the amount of yarn all over the place…heavenly!!!

OMG WHAT FUN!!!!! i’m so jealous you guys got to go! all that fiber goodness..i started to drool. that ravelry avatar thing is sweet. i would have tried loooking for mine too! haah! :)

OMG… you look like you had so much fun. Can I tag along with you guys next year? I didn’t go because no one in San Diego that I knew wanted to and my Bay area friends aren’t into knitting. Maybe next year I’ll get the nerve to go by myself.

Mmm … I thought they said cameras were not allowed inside the market? LOL! I bet you turned off the flash, right? :D

You know, I didn’t even know you weren’t allowed to take pictures, until the philosopher’s wool lady told me. But she also told me it was a ridiculous rule because all the products there are photographed and posted on everyone’s own websites anyways, so what’s the difference?! So I openly took pictures and no one even blinked. The only reason why I didn’t use flash was because it was too much exposure for the indoor lighting it already had. =)

I luv your blog on our time at Stitches! I feel the same way you do about approaching people, although I really wanted to say “Hi!, great site!” to Jess and everyone else at the Ravelry booth, I didn’t.
I have to admit, I was a BIG spender at Stitches this year! Bought enough yarn for 2 large throws, and 3 sweaters, and one awesome book (Ruth, I wil bring it along on Thursday and you can mark what you want me to photocopy). I really enjoyed taking the train for the first time, even though it was a trifle warm in there. Best of all was the company of my fellow SnBers!

I’m jealous…but thank you for sharing the photos so I could get a little taste :o)

AH!! It looks like So MUCH FUN!! I’m completely jealous of you and the others!!! I had to settle for going to Babetta’s on Thursday night… and ended up splurging there.

Fun, fun, fun girl! I’m glad you and Caitlyn got a chance to go this year. Did you meet up with Cyndi? A knitting get-together is long overdue!
