I may be a little insane for casting on for this particular project, seeing that I am cramming for so many other projects with looming (or past) deadlines. But because I have knitting-ADD, and I have been eyeing this project for forever, I had to cast on. Actually, me finding this type of yarn at Stitches probably encouraged it quite a bit.
This is probably my first big fair isle project. I’ve done colorwork here and there in little doses in other projects, and always wanted to do more. Plus, I am itching to do a project in a finer gauge. (Yes, I’m a “smaller needle” kind of knitter.) I did the cuff ribbing in US #O’s (2 mm), and the body is being done up in US #2.5’s (3 mm). Yarn is Louet Gems Fingerling, and can you believe it’s superwash? I love the colors, and I love how tight and precise each stitch is so far. (Of course, it needs a good blocking afterwards, but so far so good, right?)
Philosopher’s Wool tips on two-handed fair isle has really helped in my stranding technique. My tension isn’t perfect (obviously), but I’ve got the main color in my dominant hand, which is working out good enough for me thus far. The pattern is in chart form (yay!) and requires some concentration, so I don’t think this project will be good for “social knitting”, so I’ll be working on this at home (rather than at my SnB group). I am absolutely LOVING this and hoping I won’t have “second mitt” syndrome!

Love the color choice. Brown, robin egg blue (and red) are our store’s colors.
