Blue Marine

ETA: Updated with a few shower pictures =)

This project is the most I’ll ever procrastinate on a project - ever. I have worked all the way down to the wire. I was working on it all the way up to the night before. I had crocheted the squares months ago; but just procrastinated on seaming and finishing it up because I knew that seaming would be painful. I’d much rather seam with knitting than with crochet. Or perhaps I just need more practice with seaming with crochet. Either way, the process was not pretty. But hopefully the end result is! It measures 33″x 35″ (click for a close-up). I gifted it to the intended recipients over the weekend:

    Notes:

    Pattern
First of all, I LOVE Candi Jensen. I love her crochet patterns, and I love her crochet diagrams, very beginner-friendly. And her patterns are so cute. This particular one is from a book called Candy Blankets, a book I recommend for crocheters. It has very cute (and do-able) baby blankets. The pattern is very simple. Crocheted squares, seamed together, sc/dc edging, and embroidered lines throughout the rows. The only frustrated I had was the seaming itself (is there a better more invisible seaming out there) and trying to figure out how to make the WS less ugly. I like my blankets as 2-sided as possible. I couldn’t help much with the seams (it ended up not looking too bad), but with the woven ends, I hated how there were so many ends sticking out everywhere. So what I did was to dab them a bit with some fabric glue (shh!) so they would always stay put, and then I cut them short. Fabric glue is my “quick fix-it” for pesky woven ends, and so far it’s worked well (fingers crossed).

Next time, I will probably not crocheted this in squares, perhaps I’ll crochet it in one complete piece so as to avoid seaming (and having a WS with the seams). I would love to make one for a baby girl, but as of now, all my friends are having boys.

    Yarn
This yarn is incredibly soft, and I love their color selection. It’s also machine washable AND dryable! Who can beat that?

The blanket is gorgeous, Ruth!!! The details are just lovely. Yay for finishing in time!

DEMON BLANKET! it’s so gorgeous. i might have to make one for myself in purples :D but you did a wonderful job. I know what you mean about the stressing. the last wedding afghan we did, i was seaming up to an hour before the SHOWER. :) HAHAHAH! sigh.

Wow Ruth, that is one gorgeous blanket - you do such great work! I’ll bet you were stressed working right up to the wire like that!

Love the blanket!!!! Thanks Auntie Ruthie! :) We love it and I’m sure the baby will love it more!

OMG that is so sweet! What lucky friends! I’m “saving my baby item making” for when a really close friend has a baby. It’s tempting to make something for the next person to come along with a little bun, but I want to save myself for a truly good friend! So much hard work!

Wow! Beautiful! And the recipients look impressed too.

Look at you knitting and crocheting again!! This blanket is very cute - - i have that book, too. Great job, I know it was well received!
