World’s Ugliest Sock

This weekend has been a full one! But one of the highlights was getting together with Lynette, Cyndi, and Caitlyn at Frog Pond. I even bumped into Courtney there! It was great hanging out with the ladies and finally meeting Lynette. Of course, I was running late and completely forgot to bring the camera. That just means we have to get together again soon! =)

In anycase, at our meeting I was able to complete my very first sock, which just so happens to be THE world’s ugliest sock. It’s huge. Here’s the ugly evidence:

Pattern: Magic Stripes Basic Socks, from Lion Brand
Yarn: Lion Brand Magic Stripes in Denim Stripe, 1 ball.
    Needle: US #3 dpn’s

The project was just to experience what all the sock fuss was. I know those of you who absolutely love knitting socks, that’s wonderful. I just don’t happen to be a sock type of gal, so there wasn’t even that much motivation to knit them. I don’t usually wear socks, unless my feet are absolutely freezing. So to all the sock-knitters out there, my sincere apologies. I’m just not into socks. Handbags, on the otherhand…. =)

I also have an ugly pair of Magic Stripes - but I must say…. I wear then constantly! They wear like iron - those ugly things will never wear out!

I think you did good - - everyone’s first sock is ugly. It gets better as you learn all of the tips and tricks! I only have three pair to my credit….don’t give up….

Looks just fine to me! Are you going to do the second sock or are you socked out for a while? You know, I had to grit my teeth finishing the second sock of my first pair but what won me over was the fit. They were perfect, which is more than I can say for a couple of sweaters.

May I suggest some “footie” socks next time? It’s really boring to do the leg part of longer socks so footies may interest you.

BTW, loved meeting you on Saturday. Can’t believe all 3 of us forgot cameras.

I think your sock looks good! I finally got the 2nd of mine done and it looks much better than the first one. I am now just about done the first one of a pair I am doing for my nephew. It’s going a lot faster because it is only for a child (he’s 2 1/2). I just have about 2 more rows of decreasing at the toes and then graft it and can start on the second one. I’ll probably do that tomorrow though.

i never wear socks either! i ‘ve only made like 3 pair total..but i have SO MUCH sock yarn! but like you…purses on the other hand….. :)

I think your sock looks ok. But your right, you either love knitting ‘em up or not. I’m still trying to persuade myself that I’ll love it if I stick with it.
I think I’m like you, love the baby knits.

Aww…I don’t think it’s ugly at all. Good luck with the bag.

I think it looks fine. Don’t be too hard on yourself!

    I think it looks great!

ooo so the sock have been finished :) sorry to hear bout ur ruffle bag though. I promise to get right to the tag in a while..:)

Hey Ruth your sock looks just fine. But, if you don’t wear them I see why this was enough for you. It’s funny but having knit one is sort of a badge of honor even if you never due it again.

I have a plan to save you from the ugly sock.. it goes like this:
    1. You knit another ugly sock
    2. You send them to me!

I really like those colors.. I think you did great, and congratulations on being brave enough to knit a sock in the first place!

Cute sock…I am still working on mine…it takes forever using size ones…ugh!! :-)

Wow! The colors came out a little prominent??
I’m knitting my first LB too and am keen to do a toe up instead. Modified the Lb pattern to accommodate my skinny feet so I def will have some yarn leftover….

You are so wrong. The sock is so RETRO, it’s HOT!

[...] I know, I know, I swore off socks not too long ago, based on a disasterous first experience. But I knew it was only a matter of time that all the sock yarn out there, in all their colorful goodness, would entice me back to give them another chance. So… [taking a deep breath]… here I am. =) [...]
