Happily Hooking Away

    Yep, that’s right, I’m hooked.

I’ve been practicing on some other motifs, these in particularly from one of Candi Jenson’s books “Crochet Bags” with the cutest handbag. I had some help with some of the talented ladies in my church (did I mention I was starting a knitting group at my church?) It’s made with granny squares, and in the squares, little sweet posies that “pop” out from the center!

I also stocked up on some crochet books. The “Teach Yourself Visually Crochet” is a great reference/teaching tool, beside the Candi Jensen books I’ve already got. And of course, Debbie Stoller’s fun “Happy Hooker”. I love her fun and light style of writing, and this book has got alot of cute patterns in there.

And, just because I’m a fan of Nancy Wiseman’s book on finishing techniques on knitting, I got her recent book on finishing for crochet. Very helpful!

As for knitting, I’m getting there. Right now the housework has been so seriously neglected (did I mention how much I hate cleaning the house), so I’m only using knitting as a way to treat myself (e.g. Once I finish cleaning the kitchen, I get to knit 5 rows; vacuuming the family room, 5 more rows!). So far it’s working. ;)

I’m not a crochet enthusiast but those pop up possies are cute!

Those look great Ruth!! I haven’t done granny squares in ages but have been thinking of using up some of my stash yarns and making a granny square afghan.

I have the Teach Yourself Visually Knitting book, and it’s great. I’m sure the crochet one is just as informative.

Wow. I’m still working my way up to double crochet and you’re making granny squares? Wow.

Your crochet blocks look excellent. You’ve done so well, especially teaching yourself.

Hey, Ruth…I’ve been away too long! I am glad to hear your reviews of crochet books. As a seasoned crocheter I am not always as good with what helps a beginner. We ordered the visual crochet book and of course Happy Hooker! You are doing a great job crocheting. I like your father’s saying and judging by my house now my mind had a bomb go off in it. I have Yarntopia stuff everywhere waiting to go to the store. I like your reward system, I’ll have to try it.

I should try the knitting reward thing. Goodness knows I’ll probably finish up all my WIPS(7 in total) by the time I’m done with Spring cleaning!!

Check you out! What cute granny squares! I’m liking the fact that another knitter has taken to the hook. I’ve been thinking about picking up Nancie Wiseman’s book…now I’ll just have to get it. Haven’t seen Happy Hooker, though. Don’t you love Candi Jensen? I have 2 of her books too.

Learning a new skill is so exciting and the granny squares look great. I can’t wait until you start your first crochet project. I love those lacy crochet shells that you see in the stores.

I bought myself “Happy Hooker”. Love it! Now, if I only had some time to actually make the stuff in there.

    Amy

you are hooked! hahahaa. so that’s where you’ve been! :)

Tee hee, happy hooker! I’m blown away by how much crafty stuff you do, and the way that you pick it up so easily!

    What a great housework plan!!!

Your granny squares with the posies are very pretty *s*. I once made the pillows with the rose in the center…still like that pattern to this day. Looks like you are all stocked up for lots of fun projects.

    Hi!

Wow you’re so talented now crocheting. I wanted to ask you about “Teach Yourself Visually Crochet” book. I want to crochet but don’t know how. All I know is how to make a chain…a mile long chain…lol.

    Happy Crocheting! :)
