1 FO, 1 WIP

Now that I’ve got this new site somewhat up and running, I can’t wait to start posting here. There are still some plugins and other things I want to use/install, but for now, so far so good. With this new site, a new WIP!

I had a busy weekend, so of course I couldn’t resist casting on for something soothing and relaxing afterwards. I’m using Karabella Aurora 8 (yummy!). Can you guess what it is? (It’s not hard to figure out – nearly half of you have probably knit this up already) =)

With a start of a new project, I will also announce the end of another. I casted off late last week, and didn’t get around to blocking it until yesterday. Here are a couple shots:Â Â

A close-up shot of the stitches, and that infamous k7tog:

AÂ breezy shot with the sun peeking through (ignore the messy living room behind it):

Pattern: Trellis Scarf, by Evelyn A. Clark (Interweave Knits, Spring 2006)
Yarn: JaggerSpun Zephyr Silk/Wool in Cassis, 1 skein
    Needle: US #5 circs

    Pattern Notes

    Pattern
Fairly easy. Of course, what drove some people away were those infamous k7tog’s, but they actually weren’t that bad. The pattern recommends that you purl loosely in the row before, and that actually helps alot. Although the repeats got really repetitive after awhile (the main body requested 23 repeats), those k7togs actually made things interesting for me, and kept me awake. Of course, you can customize this scarf into a shawl – just add repeats to it to make it longer or wider. Fairly simple and easy to do.

One thing that I’ve noticed (and other knitters have noticed too) is that the beginning border and the ending border of this pattern don’t really match. I didn’t take pictures to show this, but although they look vaguely similar, they are not the same. I didn’t care too much about this, but some others might, so if you want your borders to look alike, I recommend you cast on for the beginning border twice, so you can graft on the second one at the end, for your ending border (rather than using the ending border that the pattern gives you).

**EDITED to add: If you’re worried about the beginning border and ending border looking different, have a comparative look for yourself.

    Yarn
This lovely yarn was gifted to me through a local SnB secret pal exchange. I was excited to receive it beceause I’ve been told that Zephyr was a great yarn for laceweight-newbies. After working with it, I agree. It was a good solid yarn (of course, the other laceweight yarn I have to compare to it, in my experience, is mohair, so of course this was much easier to handle). It’s smooth, soft, and lovely to handle. Of course, I forgot it was partially wool, so when I blocked it, I was surprised to smell a faint wet-wool smell (for those who felt, you know what smell I’m talking about). Now that I’m done with this scarf, I still have nearly 250 yards of it left. Not sure what to do with that amount.

I have an olive colour dress on today and it’s now matched with an unhealthy bright shade of jealous green on my face!
Now I know who to turn to IF I bring the pattern out ‘future projects’.

Your Trellis Scarf is gorgeous! Those k7tog’s have scared me off so far!

Your Trellis is so beautiful and inspiring. I was fully ready to toss mine in the UFO pile but now think I’ll keep at it. thanks! ;)

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!! i want to do one now! hahaha

Lovely lovely! That pink is beautiful! Actually, all the Zephyr colours are lovely to me! ;) I am still undecided about the other end of the scarf … maybe I would graft … maybe not.

    Is WordPress difficult to learn?

Your Trellis is so beautiful and thanks for that lovely close-up. Congrats on the new blog home – very nicely set up

Congrats on yr new blog. Great Trellis.

Trellis looks gorgeous! You are a fast lace knitter. Thanks for the tip on the borders too. Trellis is on my list of things to knit for sure.

BYL is coming along nicely too – I love the color you chose, it is perfect for fall.

I love the new site…I’d been considering wordpress myself. Does it let you do categories? Nice knits, btw :o)

    Love your new look!

Love your new site and the Trellis scraf./shawl. Your backyard leaves is such a gorgeous colour.

Ruth, I love that Trellis scarf. I guess that lonely ball of Zephyr now knows what it wants to be. What are the dimensions of your scarf? Also, how different are the edging patterns. I hate grafting, but I may do it if the ends are really disparate. (Knitting is the only thing that brings the anal retentive out).

Ruth your scarf is beautiful! I have to admit that I’ve avoided anything with that many kto. Maybe I should reconsider. Your new site is lovely too.

such prettiness! :D the trellis is really lovely! and I’ve been “meaning to make” the backyard leaves scarf ever since I first saw it. yours is coming along fantastically! so many exclamation points! !!!

Wow, the difference between the ends is quite a lot–I miss the texture of the decrease bumps. Not that it matters in my case since my Trellis hasn’t grown one whit.

Wow, Trellis is beautiful! You are quite the lace knitter! The k7togs scared me away for sure.
