Seven Facts

    Tagged by Jade!

I’ve seen this meme buzz around all week. So here’s me:

    1. I hate housework. But I’m a housewife.

    2. I love to travel, and explore new cultures, people, lifestyles, food. When I go to a new place, I don’t mind doing touristy things (I love history too), but I prefer seeing what it’s like to live like a local… I like seeing the world through other people’s perspectives and trying to understand people who are different from me. It helps remind me that the world does not revolve around me and my own experiences (a very important quality to have, in my book).

    3. Even though I love to travel, I absolutely HATE plane rides. I’m always super freaked out, especially during take off, landing, and turbulence. Yes, I’m wimpy. And at least once or twice a year, we take a trip where it involves crossing an ocean (Atlantic or Pacific, take your pick), so I deal with this fear quite often. =)

    4. My husband was my one and only boyfriend. We were each other’s first of nearly everything. I wouldn’t have it any other way. =)

    5. Some people say I resemble the actress Neve Campbell. I still can’t figure out why, I think we look nothing alike.

    6. This June 1st, I’ll have been married 5 years. We’re taking the weekend off to Napa, possibly a B&B, a spa, and of course, wine tasting.

    7. This August, Hubby and I will be going to Kenya for a couple weeks. We will be in Nakuru (a couple hours north of Nairobi), helping out with a free medical camp for those in need, and doing local outreaches in the neighborhood. I’m feeling nervous, excited, and unprepared all at once. We are currently raising support (financial and prayer) for this trip. (And yes, the plane ride there is going to be LONG - see #3 above). =P

If you like this meme, consider yourself tagged! And of course, let me know if you’re doing it, so I can come over to your blog and take a peek at it too. =)

    Top 5 for 2006

Felicia posted about looking back at 2006 with a couple simple questions, and I thought it would be fun to dwell on them for myself!

    1. How was 2006 for you?

Crazy busy with an extremely full schedule of activities and ministries. Lots of traveling and fun. And finally feeling settled (details here).

    2. What was the highlight of the year?

Hard to say, there are so many: Learned to sew. Taught myself embroidery. Improved on my crochet. Finally conquered socks. Witnessed/helped a handful of my friends get married. Went to China, went to DC, went to North Carolina. Those were the most memorable ones.

    3. What did you want to accomplish that you didn’t get to do?

Had a lot of crafting deadlines/projects that failed or didn’t come through in time. =(

    4. What are you planning for 2007?

Crafting-wise: Hubby is gracious enough to help me with a new but ongoing project… a craft/sewing room (he IS a keeper, isn’t he)!! We have plans of cleaning stuff out, moving new furniture in, and possibly a new sewing machine (also plans of selling my Singer). This room won’t be ready til January, I’m sure. And specific crafting goals - I am hoping to work on patchwork, possibly some quilting, and finishing up my many WIPs.

Next year I will also have the privilege of seeing even more of my friends walk down the altar! Some of them are old friends from high school, some from college, some from post-college and all over. And there are a select few that I get to stand alongside them, with a pretty bouquet and a pretty colored dress, rooting them on with love and support. Can’t wait. So planning-wise, this means more showers to coordinate. =)

    Knitting Funk

Let me start off with an apology and a warning - beware, this is a depressing post.

    I haven’t posted here in awhile because there hasn’t really been anything terribly exciting in my world of crafting. In fact, it’s just been downright discouraging. I have up to 10 WIPs in my hands, and alot of them have been stalled mostly because something is wrong with it, and either 1) I don’t know how to fix it or 2) There are too many problems and I’m not motivated to do anything about it. Sad, huh? I’ve casted on for new projects, hoping they’ll jump start me, but alas, they ended up sad little WIPs as well, making things more discouraging. {sigh}

I’ve never been in a knitting funk before, but I know others have experienced it. The joy of picking up my needles, the excitement and anticipation of a project, all that is gone. Yes, very sad.

So I decided to do a little triaging here. Damage control. This is what I’ve told myself as of late:

Rule #1: Absolutely, do NOT cast on for any more projects.

Rule #2: If you are to pick up the needles (which I know you will), your current project will be a WIP.

Rule #3: Your goal is to knock down as many WIPs as you can, and shrink it down to a manageable size (I haven’t determined what a manageable size is, but 10 WIPs is definately overwelming and NOT manageable size).

Have you been in a funk before? How did you get there, and how did you get yourself out of it?
