Uptown Handbag (Amy Butler)

The Uptown Handbag (from Amy Butler’s “Madison Bags”)
Pattern
As always, Amy Butler’s patterns are very clear and easy to understand for any novice sewer. She explains things well, and has accompanying diagrams with her explanations. Although this handbag isn’t really quite my style (I’m a small bag kinda gal), I was pretty pleased with the construction of it and the simplicity of it. The velcro straps worked too. One thing I changed was to add pockets to the lining. The original pattern didn’t really have pockets. But I like the amount of room this bag gives. I even have room for a small knitting project as well!
Fabric
I used mid-weight cotton fabrics from Joann’s. I also added some interfacing as well as Peltex (to replace the Timtex) for the bottom. So far it’s pretty sturdy. I can throw in all sorts of things and it holds up quite well.
